In 2019, I have switched teams at my workplace, leaving the Analytics Team and joining a newly-formed special task-force department. We were implementing solutions within a 5M+ PLN R&D NLP Grant that the company has secured. The project aimed at cooperating with the academia environment in building custom solutions necessary for mining social media content.

Solution

Among various tasks we had to do on an everyday basis, due to my youth (at least that’s what I believe in!), I was assigned an ambitious task – text-mining emojis and extracting them from social media posts. I was able not only to achieve that, but also I managed to translate their intended meaning.

Lesson Learned

Apart from feeling younger every day, I have understood the way how our generation, the millennials, communicates on the Internet, especially in social media. And I also learned a few new emojis/smileys to use in chats with my friends ;).
